Crabby McStarvingpants

Yesterday I embarked on a journey to a happier, healthier, leaner me.

I am completely miserable. And I have no one to blame but myself.

I started Nutrisystem. Yes, that Nutrisystem, with the Marie Osmond and the Valerie Bertinelli commercials. With the packaged foods and the limiting of the calories. With the "I lost 50 pounds" *results not typical*.
So far, the food has been okay. It's not going to win any culinary awards, but is also better than just about any flavor of Lean Cuisine on the market.
It's the portions. They are tiny. And I am starving.
{At this point I should also mention that Evan was sick yesterday, both kids have today off, and I am PMSing like nobody's business. In other words, I am a raging bitch. So naturally it's a great time to start a diet regimen that does not include ice cream, french fries, hamburgers, or brownies. I would cut off at least 2 toes for a Big Mac right now.}
I think the only way I may get through this is hibernation.
I'm also supposed to be exercising, but right now I can only focus on not eating. Not eating is going to have to be enough for a few days. Then I will get to walking. Because it's been gorgeous and I hate to squander the bits of spring that are all around me.
It sucks to be fat!!

Here's my two cents... I started using the Wii to help me out. Using the EA Sports Active original and the More Activities versions and doing the 6 week challenge. Also, I cut out most of my icky carbs--the sugar in my coffee is now Splenda, not eating candy or having sugar free lifesavers instead, etc. And I started eating Special K Protein Plus in the morning... a big bowl with some sort of fruit--strawberries, raspberries, or half a banana--in skim milk. It seems impossible, but it actually keeps me full for at least 2.5-3 hours in the morning! Even while running all my errands that typically make me a raging lunatic from hunger. It's taken 6 weeks, but I have lost ~8 pounds and haven't been hungry at all. I'd be happy to chat about what else we've done around our house to make changes. Hubby has lost 22 lbs in just under 4 months! Feel free to email me!

Drink lots of water. Trust me on this one. It will help, I promise.

Also, if you're allowed veggies and fruits, keep a supply of carrot sticks, cucumber slices, grapes, etc. on hand. When you get the desperate munchies, you'll have healthy stuff ready to go.

Hang in there.

You can do it! I've never tried Nutrisystem, but I've heard good things about it. Start working out slow & work your way up. It takes patience, but in the end, it will all be worth it.....trust me! And like Jen said....water is your best friend.

BTW, Valerie actually did Jenny Craig, not Nutrisystem :)

Good Luck Sue-you can do it. Just be sure to eat the veggies and sides you'll need to make with each meal. This makes using that plan easier. That's what I did when trying it out. I prefer W.W. because I am still eating what I like in moderation, I cook it etc, and I am still losing weight and maintaining mostly even when I go off. The biggest thing for me is my carbs, drinks and sugar that I have to stay away from. So far so good. Good luck.

By the by Valerie did the Jenny Craig gig along with Kirstie Ally and now George from Seinfeld too. I scare myself because I know these things.

I feel your pain on the dieting issue. Especially if the hormones are kicking in. We are here for you! Let it all out on the blog, and we'll give you virtual hugs. Or send your raging _itch emails to me personally, and I'll talk you down. XXOO

I really find the exercise part helps because when I exercise I don't want to eat the stuff that is bad for me (like fast food) and I crave the fruits. Also, lots of water--keeps you full feeling.

I too started a weight loss program at work. I like the focus of this one as a combination of exercise and monitoring calorie intake. I have had some modest success and can see this working long term.

Good Luck! I suspect we two are somewhat screwed by genetics :)
